As welding or welding is referred to:

  • in mechanical engineering the permanent connection of metal parts by cold or hot welding
  • the unwanted connection of two sliding surfaces due to poor lubrication, see scuffing (technology)
  • in plate tectonics, the connection of parts of the earth's crust in a weld zone
  • in resilient floor coverings, the thermal sealing seam edges with weld or fuse wire
