Tension triangle

In the case of screw connections, the tension triangle indicates the relationship between the tension force and deformation in the elastic range . It provides clear, graphical information about the size of the pre-tensioning force applied, the elastic extension of the screw and the elastic compression of the clamped parts (elastic resilience ).

The tension triangle results from the summary of the force-length change diagrams of the elastic extension of the screw due to a tensile force and the elastic compression of the tensioned parts due to a compressive force when the screw connection is tightened. In the assembled state, the applied pre-tensioning force (corresponds to the tensile or compressive force) in the screw bolt and in the pre-tensioned parts, for example flanges , are the same. Furthermore, the operating force or the axial operating load, or also referred to as the threshold load, can be built into the bracing triangle.
