Widening of the lane

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term lane widening describes the enlargement of the lane width of a street. It is necessary to widen the road cross-section in the area of a road divider or to create turning lanes and median strips. In the case of left-turning lanes, the existing lane is shifted halfway to the right. If a right-turn lane is added, it will be placed directly to the right of the existing lane. Lane widening is permitted both on straight lines and in curves.

calculation

Calculation of the lane widening

The warping distance l z is used for the transition from the normal cross-section to the expansion cross-section .

The calculation goes as follows:

l z length of the warping distance in m

v e design speed in km / h

i total broadening in m

The formula is not true to the unit.
