Vestiges of the Natural History of Creation
Vestiges of the Natural History of Creation (dt .: tracks of the Natural History of Creation ) was an anonymously in London in 1844 publicized popular book. In it the idea of a deistic , ie a cosmic, geological and biological evolution proceeding without direct divine intervention was represented. It found widespread use and was received controversially in Victorian society at the time because of its unorthodox and speculative ideas .
The author, Scottish publisher Robert Chambers , who died in 1871 , was not revealed until the 12th edition of the book, published posthumously in 1884.
Carl Vogt made the first German translation after the sixth edition of Vestiges . It was published in 1851 by the Braunschweig publishing house Friedrich Vieweg and Son and was entitled Natural history of the creation of the universe, the earth and the organisms on it, based on the facts obtained through science . A second, improved edition followed in 1858.
