Vi veri universum vivus vici
Vi veri universum vivus vici is a Latin expression and means: "Through the power of truth, I have conquered the universe as a living person." The phrase can also be written Vi veri veniversum vivus vici . It was a magical motto of the English occultist Aleister Crowley as "Magister Templi".
The saying became known through the film adaptation of the comic book V for Vendetta of the same name . In the comic, the letters "VVVVV" are engraved in a part of V's hiding place, the "shadow gallery". In the film, these letters also appear in the shadow gallery, but on a mirror. In the context of the story, “V” also stands for the Roman number five. The five Vs of the saying also symbolize this. "John Faust" is mentioned as the source in the comic. The film calls the " Faust " without specifying which Faust. Usually associated with either Christopher Marlowe's Faust or Goethe's Faust . However, the motto does not appear in either of these two works.
