Vidalia is a graphical user interface for controlling the client of the Tor anonymization network . It enables the configuration of the Tor client, the monitoring of the status in the Tor network and the transfer rate, as well as the viewing, searching and filtering of log messages. Vidalia also supports the user in setting up a Tor network node.

Vidalia can also display a map of the Tor network, which shows the geographic location of the Tor servers and the route taken by its own Tor traffic.

Vidalia is subject to the terms of the GNU General Public License . It uses the Qt library and runs on all platforms supported by Qt 4.3 such as Linux , Mac OS X (some components, however, only via Rosetta ), Windows and Unix .

End of the project

On February 9, 2015, the German co-developer of the Tor software, Sebastian Hahn, announced in a message to the Tor-Talk mailing list that he had removed the links to the Vidalia project. He also announced that he and the development team at Vidalia Software stopped developing the software a long time ago. He could no longer offer Vidalia as a recommended solution.

Alternative to Vidalia

The terminal program arm (Anonymizing Relay Monitor) offers a similar functionality.

In the official FAQ on the Tor project, the development of a plug-in for the Firefox browser is announced, which should be similar to the functionality of Vidalia. The current version of the plug-in (Tor Launcher) is supplied with the Tor Browser, an adapted version of Mozilla Firefox.
