Viljandi Folk Festival
Viljandi Folk Festival ( Estonian : Viljandi pärimusmuusika festival ) has been an annual, multi-day event in the Estonian city of Viljandi since 1993 . The event is known beyond the national borders.
The festival is the largest annual music event in Estonia and one of the larger of its kind in Europe. Over the years his focus has shifted from a regional event for traditional Estonian folk music to an international meeting of European folk music . The music of the domestic draft horses of the festival often falls into the genres of folk rock or folk metal . These influences have made the festival increasingly attractive to a young audience, fans of traditional Estonian folk music are turning to the festival in Võru .
The Viljandi pärimusmuusika festival lasts four days and is held every year at the end of July. More than 100 concerts take place in the castle ruins, churches, squares and courtyards of the city.
