Villa Cordellina Lombardi
The Villa Cordellina Lombardi is located in Montecchio Maggiore , in the province of Vicenza , Italy.
history
The Villa Cordellina Lombardi is one of Giorgio Massari's main works . Commissioned by Carlo Cordellina Molin, a famous legal scholar of his time, he created the villa between 1735 and 1760 in a neo-Palladian style .
At the beginning of the 20th century, the property fell into disrepair and was used for a short time to raise silkworms. In 1943 the villa came into the possession of Count Gaetano Marzotto and was taken over by Dr. Lombardi from Milan acquired and renovated. Today it is under the administration of the Amministrazione Provinciale di Vicenza , which commissioned the restoration of the valuable Tiepolo frescoes.
The Villa
The detached villa has two identical facades on the front and back, which are dominated by a four-column portico that extends over both floors. The two much flatter, rusticated outbuildings, the guest house ( foresteria ) and the stables ( scuderia ) have balustrades with stone vases on the roof and harmoniously enclose the central manor house.
The interior of the great hall is the same width as the portico of the main building. This was painted with frescoes by Giambattista Tiepolo in 1743. The ceiling painting in the drawing room shows the triumph of prudence over ignorance . On the right wall the painting Alexander the Great welcomes the defeated Darius and his family . The opposite wall is decorated with the painting Scipio's nobleness .
The garden
The beds of the Italian garden are bordered with cut box borders. Numerous sculptures and stone vases by Antonio and Francesco Bonazza adorn the garden.
