Villa Kramerstein

The Villa Krämerstein is a cultural asset in Kastanienbaum near Horw on the shores of Lake Lucerne. There is a ship landing stage on the shore.

history

The villa was built in 1786 by the foil silk entrepreneur Balthasar Falcini in a classical style . It served as a mansion for wealthy Lucerne residents. In 1906 the businessman and Brazilian honorary consul Carlos Keller bought the villa and built a garden. In 1980 his son Philipp Keller bequeathed the property to the Swiss Museum of Transport . In 1982 the municipality of Horw acquired the property; the proceeds were used to build the shipping hall in the museum of transport. From 1984 to 2005 the MAZ ran the Swiss School of Journalismhis training center in the villa. In 1988 the villa's park served as an exhibition area. In 1990 the "Haus am See" foundation was established for educational, artistic, cultural and social purposes. The International School of Zug and Luzern was rented in the villa from 2006 to 2016. It is currently used as a school building.
