Founded in 2003 by the Fondation pasteur Eugène Bersier ( Pastor Eugène Bersier Foundation ), the Virtual Museum of Protestantism tells the story of Protestantism in France from the 16th century to the present day.

history

In March 1994 the Fédération protestante de France commissioned the Fondation pasteur Eugène Bersier to consider and take steps to relocate its offices in Paris. The project developed into a place of remembrance and museum of the Bible and Protestantism , but was then abandoned.

In 2000, the Foundation, which was not allowed to set up a real museum on the history of Protestantism, decided, together with the Société de l'histoire du protestantisme français (Society for the History of French Protestantism), to set up a museum on the Internet virtual museum of French Protestantism with the main aim of making the specifics of Protestantism in French history clear.

The free museum website opened in January 2003. It was soon visited by a wide audience, which continues to grow after the English and German versions have opened thanks to support from the Île-de-France region and the French Ministry of Culture.

In 2014, both the design and the navigation were completely redesigned while retaining the existing content.

content

The virtual museum of Protestantism contains over 1,000 articles, divided into four sections, illustrated with 3,000 pictures. These articles, enriched with videos, documents and references, are available in French , English and German . Alternatively, the articles can also be divided into tours, within which they are arranged in the relevant order according to topic, in order to take up the idea of a museum tour. On the home page, a timeline illustrates the key dates in the history of Protestantism.

The four main sections of the museum are:

  • history
  • Personalities
  • subjects
  • Art and heritage

Also offered are some exhibitions that were previously circulated through the Protestant museums. Special articles are dedicated to them.

Since May 4, 2015, the museum has been offering an online tour dedicated to the Protestant Reformation class, specially designed for students in French 5th grade, with adapted pedagogical articles, numerous audio elements, images, videos and documents aimed at teachers and include a questionnaire to validate educational performance.
