Virus interference
Under Virus interference refers to the interaction of two virus within a host. One virus can inhibit the reproduction of the other virus, i.e. prevent or hinder the infection of a host cell by the second virus or promote reproduction. The viruses affected may or may not be related to one another.
Virus interference can affect vaccinations , as an existing viral infection can counteract the hoped-for effect of a live vaccination . The enteroviruses that cause an infection in summer can cause virus interference with the polioviruses (also an enterovirus) contained in the oral oral vaccination according to Sabin and prevent the development of immunity. Therefore, the oral polio vaccination was carried out in winter.
