In the referendum on an extension of the electoral term in Bremen 2017 in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen , the citizens were asked whether the electoral term for the Bremen citizenship should be extended from four to five years. In the vote parallel to the 2017 federal election, 48.4 percent of Bremen citizens voted in favor and 51.6 percent against. In addition to a simple majority of the votes, another condition would have been that at least 20 percent of all eligible voters vote in favor of the constitutional amendment. Bremen is the only federal state to have a four-year electoral term.
