Folk singer (Strauss)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Volkssänger is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 119). The work was first performed on August 30, 1852 in Ungers Casino in Vienna.

Remarks

The folk singer's waltz, held in the country style, was written for the Hernalser Kirchtag (church fair), which had its musical climax every year in Ungers Casino . With this work, Strauss set a musical monument to the people who were known as folk singers at the time. These people either wandered through the country or were tied to their place. In any case, they wore common ways such as B. folk songs or couplets. Such singers were often on site, especially during church days, and contributed to the entertainment. Strauss himself has taken up and processed motifs from the songs in some of his compositions. This was not the case in the waltz folk singer. This is an original composition. The work was well received and has been featured in various concert programs to this day.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 8 minutes and 12 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
