Voorwaarts
Voorwaarts ( German Vorwärts ) was a (initially national) Dutch daily newspaper with an editorial office in Rotterdam .
history
The first edition of the Voorwaarts appeared on July 26, 1920 as an organ of the SDAP . In 1929 he was incorporated together with his Amsterdam sister newspaper Het Volk into the newly founded publishing house “De Arbeiderspers”, which from then on published the newspapers of the SDAP. In the interwar years, the Voorwaarts and its sister newspaper were very popular, not least because of the reporters' special flair for news and the layout of the newspapers, which were provided with many photos, caricatures and entertaining sections.
At the end of the 1930s the Voorwaarts was converted into a regional newspaper, while Het Volk retained its national character. After the German invasion in World War II , the newspapers fell into the hands of the occupying power and were re-functionalized according to their goals. After the war, the Voorwaarts was discontinued in favor of its sister newspaper, which was renamed Het Vrije Volk .
