Advance Disposal

Advance decree above the address window: "If you move back with a new address"
Letter, sent by the Royal Mail: If undelivered please return to…

A pre-order is a note in the address field of a mail item above the recipient address, which specifies the handling of the item if it is undeliverable.

A shipment is undeliverable if the recipient has moved or died, but also if he refuses to accept it. In the past, when the recipient moved, the advance directive could stipulate that the sender would receive a postcard ("address correction card") with the recipient's new address.

Sender's PREMIUMADRESS RETOURE EXTRA LETTER

The advance directive was replaced on June 30, 2010 by the product Premiumadress .

This can be recognized by a capital "P" and a matrix code . It can be used with fully paid (letter) and discounted products (Dialogpost, Pressepost).

The matrix code contains, among other things, the desired type of treatment and the sender's Post customer number. If the address is incorrect, it will be corrected and the shipment will be delivered. The sender receives information about the error in the address.

Since then, there have only been two admissible advance directives for letters and postcards:

  • “Do not forward!” Even if the recipient has ordered a forwarding (including a temporary one) from Deutsche Post , the shipment will not be forwarded. The shipment will be returned to the sender.
  • "Return with a new address if you move!" The shipment will be returned to the sender. If the recipient has agreed to his new address being passed on, the new address will be noted on the shipment.
