Demonstration effect

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The demonstration effect describes an assumed effect in which exactly what one actually wants to show does not occur during the demonstration or demonstration of an action.

Examples

  • A trick that has often been successfully rehearsed suddenly goes wrong in front of an audience. In this case, the failure is mostly explained by the nervousness caused by the presence of the audience.
  • In technology, the reproducibility of errors makes rectification easier . A demonstration effect is when an error occurs frequently when using a device or software by an average experienced user, but does not occur when an expert is present, for example in the car repair shop or when there are computer problems.
