Forehand, middle and hind quarters (3 players)

In card games such as Skat, the forehand is the player who has to play the first card.

sequence

The forehand is followed by the middle hand and then the rear hand . If there are three players, the dealer is behind at the start of the game. For the first trick, the forehand is the player who follows the dealer in the direction of the game ("left turn", "clockwise"). These positions can change constantly during a game round: the player who has taken a trick automatically becomes forehand and must play the next card.

In Skat is used, the terms transmitter , receiver , Sager and reciters , which terms already describe the roles.

Idioms

A number of idioms have emerged from the game of Skat, which have found their way into everyday German. The situation of the hindquarters and its advantage of influencing the trick by playing an important card play a major role:

  • To be in the hindquarters, to sit” : to be able to act and express oneself last and with knowledge of what has gone before.
  • “To have something up your sleeve, to hold something , to have something : to have something ready for a specific purpose, but still hold it back in order to apply it surprisingly at the appropriate time (and thus play a trump card).
