Pre-division

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The pre-splitting is a phenomenon in the machining of wood . When removing a chip in the direction of the grain, the cutting edge is preceded by a crack, which simplifies the removal and extends the service life of the cutting edge. However, the pre-split leads to a rough surface. The pre-splitting occurs when working in the opposite direction and with a positive rake angle. The larger the rake angle, the larger the pre-split and the smaller the machining forces.
