A vole reject device (vole self-shot) is an aid to fighting the eastern water vole or large vole.

Structure and mode of operation

Technically, the device is similar to a blank gun. A blank cartridge is inserted into the device and then a firing pin is cocked. This is connected to the trigger on the front part of the device via a spring mechanism. The firing device is introduced into an opened vaulting outlet, wedged there and then the passage closed again. The vole triggers the firing pin on contact with the trigger. The animal dies due to the pressure wave of the escaping gases.

Risks

By using blank cartridges, there is a general risk of serious injury. It is therefore important to use the device in such a way that it cannot be accidentally triggered by unauthorized persons (or children playing). There is also a certain risk when setting and disarming traps that have not been triggered.
