from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Western European Nuclear Regulators Association , WENRA for short , is an association of European nuclear regulatory authorities founded in 1999 . In this network, the authorities involved exchange information on safety-relevant aspects of the operation of nuclear facilities and plants. In total, nuclear supervisory authorities from 18 countries are organized in WENRA. For Germany , the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) takes part in WENRA. 12 other states have observer status.

tasks and goals

The main tasks of WENRA are the exchange of experience with regard to safety in the operation of nuclear facilities and the harmonization of safety requirements based on this. The Reactor Harmonization Working Group (RHWG) of WENRA is active in the latter area . Furthermore, the Working Group on Waste and Decommissioning (WGWD) analyzes different approaches in the disposal of radioactive waste and fuel elements as well as regulatory issues with regard to the decommissioning of nuclear facilities. Both working groups regularly publish opinions and reports. In the area of radiation protection , the HERCA association pursues similar goals.
