WETA-FM is a classical format public radio station for Washington, DC

The broadcast studios are located in Arlington , Virginia while the transmitter is nearby. The station supplies the Washington Metropolitan Area and, with 75 kW ERP, is one of the most powerful stations in the region licensed by the FCC.

History and mission

A group around the publisher Willard Kiplinger and the Chairman of the Arlington School Board Elizabeth Campbell secured a license for a television broadcast in the early 1960s. They started WETA on channel 26 on October 2nd, 1961. WETA sees its mission in broadcasting educational programs for children and for lifelong learning. In 1988 WETA-FM went on the air with a 24 hour radio program. In 2007, WETA-FM switched its format from a broad music and information program to an all-classic station.
