WS-SecureConversation

WS-SecureConversation is a specification from the group of WS- * specifications. It is a specification for defining the creation and distribution of the security context for message layer encryption. A security context provides a shared secret with which messages are signed and encrypted (compare SSL ).

The WS-SecureConversation specification provides three different methods for creating the security context:

  • Generation by Security Token Service (STS)
  • Generation by one of the communication partners
  • Generation through negotiation among the participants
