Risk indicator

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The risk code (WKZ) is a technical term used in the insurance industry . It serves to standardize the risk assessment in motor vehicle liability insurance and comprehensive insurance .

Definition and modification

The WKZ are defined by the German Insurance Association and are used by all insurance companies to compile damage statistics and assess risks. Internally, insurers can also use other WKZ for differentiation, but have to recode them accordingly within the framework of the statistical data to be supplied. The list of Gothaer dares given in the web links is an example of this and includes a. the self-assigned numbers 750 to 753 for red license plates.

The WKZ change more frequently, e.g. For example, until 2006 almost all insurers still listed delivery vans (purely for insurance purposes) with a payload of up to 1 tonne as WKZ 202. After the separation between delivery vans and trucks (lorries) was changed to the permissible total weight (now up to 3.5 tons), the WKZ for delivery vans was replaced by 251 (works transport) and 261 (freight transport).

In the vehicle group of trucks, even before the conversion, a division was made after use in factory or freight transport and, furthermore, into local and long-distance transport according to a provision in the Road Freight Transport Act which has now been repealed. The legal reform meant that this distinction was not made when the risk indicators were redefined.

  • The vehicle type (e.g. WKZ 003 - motorcycle from 7 kW, WKZ 005 - moped)
  • The use (e.g. WKZ 251 for trucks up to 3.5 t gross vehicle weight in factory traffic , WKZ 261 for trucks or vans up to 3.5 t gross weight in freight traffic )

The 700 series are awarded for risks where there is a vehicle tax exemption due to a handicap of the owner, the 800 series are used for the identification of export license plates.

use

The risk code is saved when an insurance contract is concluded. From this, as part of the overall statistics (the individual insurers report their data with the so-called role B to the GDV once a year) from the loss frequency and loss average using complicated statistical-mathematical procedures, the claims for the individual WKZ are determined.

history

Until the liberalization of the insurance market on June 30, 1994, the WKZ was determined by the regulation on tariffs in motor vehicle liability insurance by the Federal Minister of Economics .
