Sample of an election notification

The election notification is the official notification of the voter about the election date and location.

In good time before political elections, every eligible voter should receive voting notification by post. This shows the date (in Germany always a Sunday or a public holiday) of the election, the electoral district and the consecutive number in the electoral roll , as well as the place where the responsible polling station is located.

If, as a person entitled to vote, one does not receive a voting notification, one should check in the electoral roll whether one is registered and, if not, file an objection. After examining the objection, you may be added later. Most of the time, the back of the voting notification also serves as a form that can be used to request postal voting documents .

The process at the polling station is accelerated by bringing the voting notification with you. When the voting slip is handed out, it is checked whether you have arrived at the correct polling station for the relevant constituency; when voting, you can be found more quickly in the electoral register However, it is not necessary to bring the voting notification with you to cast your vote, especially since the notification is not the sole authorization. You have to have a valid ID with you to prove your identity; However, the electoral committee is often satisfied with just showing the election notification.

The voting notification must not be confused with the voting slip .
