The Waldbühne Ahmsen , an open-air theater in the municipality of Lähden , has been performing amateur plays with Christian content since 1949 .

Children's theater has also been performed there since 1964 . It is the most popular non-professional open-air stage in Northern Germany with a record number of 63,000 spectators in the 2008 summer season. A new grandstand was built in Ahmsen in 2007 for over half a million euros and on June 9th of that year for a performance of Jedermann by Hugo von Hofmannsthal inaugurated. Since then, the Waldbühne Ahmsen has offered space for 2,000 spectators, including thirty special handicapped-accessible seats. All spectator seats are covered. The season runs from May to the beginning of September.
