Wandel & Goltermann was a German manufacturer of measurement and communication technology . The family business became known through the production of special signal systems for the police and civil defense .

history

The company was founded on November 23, 1923 by Wolfram Wandel and Ulrich Goltermann. For 500 Reichsmarks they had acquired a license to build and sell radio systems. Ulrich Goltermann's mother signed the certificate, as both were not yet fully competent.

They opened their first shop at Gartenstrasse 4 in Reutlingen . They sold self-made radios and also maintained them at customers' sites. Wandel & Goltermann received its first major orders from public institutions, where they installed radio reception systems or telephone systems.

Between 1929 and 1932 the shop was on Wilhelmstrasse. Then they moved to premises on Karlsplatz. Meanwhile, the company also sold turntables and records as well as refrigerators.

In 1998, Wandel & Goltermann made an annual turnover of 500 million German marks . In the same year 1,600 employees worked for the group of companies. In 1999 one merged with the US company Wavetek . In 2001, a merger with TTC followed and the group was renamed Acterna . On August 3, 2005, Acterna was acquired by JDSU .
