history

In a document from 1486, the place is mentioned for the first time in connection with disputes over meadow irrigation and pasture use with the older settlement of Exenbach. Agriculture (pasture farming) and work in the glassworks - Hobelsberg and Duschlberg - was the basis of life for the young “Freindorf” settlement. At that time, the forests and pastures of the rich Freindorfer farmers extended to the Bohemian border (in the north) and the Rannariedlisch-Austrian border (in the east). Already at the beginning of the 16th century they had the right to graze on the "great Haid" on the Bohemian border. Around 1550 Vorderfreundorf had 14 houses.

The "Haidweg" acquired special importance when the imperial war people marched into South Bohemia in the first years of the Thirty Years' War. Vorderfreundorf, which had to accommodate larger troop divisions several times, suffered from this marauding soldier. In 1619, Prince-Bishop Leopold had the “large ski jump” built in Gschwendet. In 1852 there were 23 houses with 273 inhabitants in Vorderfreundorf. In 1900 280 inhabitants and in 1967 361 inhabitants and 73 houses. Since 1840 the community of Vorderfreundorf has a size of 746 ha.

With 476 inhabitants, Vorderfreundorf is currently the third largest town in the municipality of Grainet.

The black grouse points to the rich fauna of the community and emphasizes the closed population of these animals in the community area.

The tools in the lower half relate to the traditional community economy. Trift hooks and paring knives, a so-called “Scheppser”, were needed by the men of the village for the Holztrift on the Osterbach and the forest work, which brought work and bread especially in the 19th century.

The approval of the use of the coat of arms was given by a resolution of the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior of July 14, 1967. With the incorporation of Vorderfreundorf into the municipality of Grainet on April 1, 1971 the coat of arms lost its official validity.
