Wartburg publishing house

The Wartburg Verlag GmbH is a magazine and book publisher in Weimar.

The publishing house was founded in 1946 by Max Keßler in Jena. The first publication was the "Christian House Calendar". 50,000 copies sold laid the foundation for further successful publications. The company was run as a private publisher until 1988 under the name of Wartburg Verlag Max Keßler .

The publishing house has been publishing the evangelical weekly newspaper Glaube und Heimat for Thuringia since 1946 and has published almost 1,500 titles in its publishing history. Weimar has been the publishing house since 1993.

The publisher's name says it all: The Wartburg Verlag is committed to the Reformation tradition of Martin Luther and the culture of Thuringia. In collaboration with the Literary Society of Thuringia, he produces the anthology of Thuringian authors "Edition Muschelkalk" and for the Thuringian state parliament the "Writings on the history of parliamentarism in Thuringia". In addition to non-fiction books and text-illustrated books on mainly Thuringian topics, the publishing house publishes Christian and theological literature as well as the Evangelical Hymn book for Thuringia.

From 2006 to 2013 the Wartburg Verlag also ran the Lutherhaus in Eisenach .

Since December 2017 the Evangelische Verlagsanstalt has taken over the distribution and the publishing support of the book program for the Wartburg Verlag.
