Most of the work to build the station happened at the end of the Soviet Union ; the construction work was temporarily idle until the station was finally opened in 2002 as a temporary end point of the Saburtalo line. The station's architect was N. Lomidze. The station is located between Delissi and the Sachelmzipo Uniwersiteti station, which is currently under construction . Originally, the Bachtrioni station was to be built between Wascha-Pschawela and Delissi.
