Washboard Rhythm Kings

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Washboard Rhythm Kings were an American jazz band that enjoyed success in the early 1930s. One of their notable pieces is the 1931 Tiger Rag (originally recorded in 1917 by the Original Dixieland Jass Band ). The recording of the Washboard Rhythm Kings is interesting because the vowels are very spontaneous, contains a strange tiger roar and a washboard that is played "rocking" . In its informal wildness, it can therefore be considered an early harbinger of rock and roll .

The group was founded in 1930 with the name "Alabama Washboard Stompers", called itself "Washboard Rhythm Kings" from 1931 and "Georgia Washboard Stompers" ( Every Little Moment / In the Middle , Decca 7096) in 1934/35 . The line-up changed constantly Members, as far as known, included Teddy Bunn (guitar), Taft Jordan and Valaida Snow (trumpet), and Leo Watson (vocals).
