The Washington-Land is an uninhabited region in northern Greenland . The region borders the Nares Strait to the northwest and is otherwise bounded by the Greenland Ice Sheet. The Washington-Land measures approximately 110 by 100 kilometers, to the southwest the Humboldt Glacier separates the region from Inglefield-Land . Despite its very northern location, Washington Land is not glaciated due to low rainfall.

History and previous settlement, raw material deposits

From a European point of view, Washington land was only discovered in the 19th century. Archaeological studies show that the region was inhabited earlier, today it is only occasionally visited by Inuit hunters. One of the hunting grounds in the region is Nunataaq . The region has significant mineral deposits and in November 2011 Ironbark Zinc Limited announced that it would continue to explore these deposits.
