The Cuñapirú hydropower plant (Spanish "Represa Hidroeléctrica de Cuñapirú") is a former hydropower plant in the Uruguayan department of Rivera .
Operated by the Compañía Francesa de las Minas de Oro del Uruguay , it started operations as the first of its kind in South America in 1882. The plant opened by the engineer Clemente Barrial Posada was on Arroyo Cuñapirú and produced electricity until November 1918, when the technician from Germany who maintained the plant died. The ruins of the structure still exist today.
