The Derneburg watermill is located in the district of Derneburg, which belongs to Holle, in the Hildesheim district in Lower Saxony . It stands within the nature reserve Mittleres Innerstetal with Kanstein . It was driven by the Mühlgraben, which is fed by the water of the river Nette . The mill building dates back to 1598 and goes back to the Evangelical Jungfrauenstift Derneburg, to which it belonged at the time of its construction. The mill is a listed building .

Immediately next to the mill are several large fish ponds that were created at the beginning of the 18th century by the monks of the Derneburg monastery and are still used as such today. The watermill and the fish ponds belonged to the state domain Derneburg until 2007 and were then bought by the Paul Feindt Foundation.

The Laves culture trail leads directly to the currently unused mill below Derneburg Castle .
