Water target shooting

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

When water target shooting is a shooting sport that target is sighted in not directly but its reflection on a calm water surface. The projectile is also reflected on the surface of the water in order to reach the target.

This sport is practiced in Austria on the Prebersee, on the Schattensee and in Lunz am See on the Großauer Teich. The ball bouncing off the surface of the water must hit the cardboard disk hanging above the water. At high speeds and at a flat impact angle of the projectile, water behaves like a solid body, the projectile is reflected at the same angle. The mirror image of the target set up on the other bank is shot from one bank of the mirror-like lake. The Preberseeschießen takes place annually in August at the Prebersee. The shooting distance at the Prebersee is around 120 m. The distance at Schattensee is 107 meters and the center of the disc is 50 cm above the water level. In Lunz water shooting, the shooting distance is 80 meters and small-bore rifles are used for shooting.
