Web observatory

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A web observatory is a system that collects and connects data about the web and its users and their mutual effects.

Web observatories go back to projects of the Web Science Trust (WST) and serve to research social and technical aspects of the web in the context of web science . One of the 14 globally distributed and networked observatories is located at the University of Koblenz .

In contrast to web analytics , the data obtained from the observatories do not serve commercial, but scientific interests. Beyond that, they have nothing to do with surveillance in the sense of criminal investigation or surveillance.
