The Web Science Trust is a charitable trust in the UK , research in the field of Web Science supported. It was founded in 2006 as a collaboration between MIT and the University of Southampton to combine and formalize research on social and technical aspects of the World Wide Web . The foundation coordinates a number of international WSTnet laboratories that include many of the leading research groups in the emerging field of web science.

When it was founded on November 2, 2006, the foundation was called "Web Science Research Initiative" (WSRI), and in 2009 it was given its current name.

The annual Web Science Conference brings together representatives from a variety of sciences, including those who explore both the social and information aspects of the WWW.
