WebEDI

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Web EDI is a WWW - interface for electronic data interchange (Engl. Electronic Data Interchange , EDI).

In order to provide business partners with a technically maintenance-free, but manual EDI solution, some companies offer them the option of entering their data via a web portal . These data are made available to the operator in the same form as if they had been transmitted via EDI. This opens up the possibility of integrating smaller business partners into the EDI landscape who do not have their own EDI equipment. Companies without an EDI systemnevertheless participate in the EDI process and submit their data to the business partner in machine-readable form for automated processing. Since a connection to the system is only made temporarily and manually, there is no permanent connection as with EDI. This is therefore not a real EDI solution.

The responsibility and the input work is shifted to the - human - participant. When the customer creates an order (ORDER), he is responsible for ensuring that it is sent to the supplier on time. With WebEDI, the supplier has to look up the Internet himself to see if he has an order. In the case of deliveries , this applies accordingly to order confirmations (ORDRSP), backorder reports, delivery notes (DESADV), price lists (PRICAT) and invoices (INVOIC).
