Web College

The Webkolleg is an online portal to provide e-learning , blended learning and mobile training. The Webkolleg was founded on April 1st, 2003. The Webkolleg presents around 25 free and 2000 fee-based training courses. All further training offers contain elements of learning with new media. On behalf of the Ministry of Labor, Integration and Social Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia, the web college advises organizations, companies and private individuals on e-learning and blended learning training courses.

history

On April 1, 2003, the office of the Webkolleg, based in Düsseldorf, started its work. The online portal went online on April 1, 2004 after the conception phase was completed. The web college, supported by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, was supported and advised by a steering committee and an advisory board.

The Webkolleg was sponsored by an amalgamation of different institutions that was unique in the North Rhine-Westphalian advanced training landscape. All partners pursued the goal of providing the people in North Rhine-Westphalia with central access to quality-checked offers of web-based training. The Webkolleg was a project of the Ministry of Economics and Labor of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in cooperation with the German Trade Union Federation District North Rhine-Westphalia, the State Rectors 'Conference of the Universities of Applied Sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia, the State Association of Adult Education Centers of North Rhine-Westphalia, the State Association of Employers' Associations North Rhine-Westphalia, the City Association of North Rhine-Westphalia, the West German Chamber of Crafts and the West German Broadcasting Corporation.

Each sponsor of the web college sent a representative to the steering committee of the web college. The steering committee steered the web college on strategic issues.

In the advisory board, a committee from science, business and various institutions regularly advised the WebKolleg on trends in blended learning, quality assurance, media didactics and market development. The advisory board relied on a network of experts who contributed their specialist knowledge on specific issues.

Since 2005, the web college has been presenting itself annually at LEARNTEC, the leading international trade fair for professional education, learning and IT.

Since January 1, 2006, the web college has been operated by the Central Office for Further Education in Crafts (ZWH). The ZWH, based in Düsseldorf, is a registered association and non-profit. The Webkolleg has also been a member of the German Network of E-Learning Actors (D-ELAN) eV since 2006

Since September 2011, the web college has been offering advanced training courses for TeleTutor, TeleAutor and TeleManager. With this offer, the web college itself has become a training provider.

The Webkolleg has been holding workshops for foreign delegations in the field of professional development and e-learning since 2012. So far, delegations from Egypt, Bahrain, China, Mozambique, Slovakia, Spain and Turkey have used these workshops.

Since July 2012, the ZWH has been a member of BITKOM - Federal Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media eV - with its web college

Since October 2012, the ZWH has been offering training to become a mediator in the trade with the Webkolleg. This training is carried out with a presence in Berlin.

The web college basically has four areas:

  1. Educational advice,
  2. Mediation and implementation of further training offers,
  3. Supervision of training portals and
  4. Development of customized learning programs.

In the first area, the web college offers companies, organizations and private individuals advice on further training courses that include e-learning. This advice is mainly provided by email and by phone. In the case of extensive consultations with companies and organizations, the consultation takes place personally.

In the second area, the web college offers further training courses that include e-learning. The offer has the following categories:

The first focus of the training is on online media. The web college offers the following advanced training courses in this area as open training courses and as customer-specific in-house training courses:

  • WebCoach 2.0: includes the explanation of podcasts, RSS feeds, Skype, Twitter, Facebook, Wikis, WindowsLive, Xing and Youtube and how these tools can be used in education. This further training is carried out as face-to-face training.
  • TeleTutor: includes the effective supervision and accompaniment of blended and e-learning scenarios. This advanced training is carried out as a blended learning advanced training course.
  • TeleAutor: includes the design of interactive content that is conducive to learning. This advanced training is carried out as a blended learning advanced training course.
  • TeleManager: includes the introduction of blended and e-learning concepts in organizations. This training is carried out as a blended learning training course.
  • Online marketing: includes an overview of the measures and strategies in online marketing. This further training is carried out as face-to-face training.
  • Web2.0 awareness workshop: in this workshop the most important Web2.0 applications and user behavior are developed.
  • Social media marketing: includes an overview of the measures and strategies in social media and in Web 2.0. This further training is carried out as face-to-face training.
  • Data protection law and legal know-how for social networks: includes the consideration of data protection and legal aspects when using social networks. This further training is carried out as face-to-face training.
  • The legally correct website: contains an overview of domain law, trademark law, naming law, competition law, copyright law, liability for content and links, data protection, provider identification and imprint. This further training is carried out as face-to-face training.

Since May 2011, the web college has also been offering training for mobile devices:

  • AEVO app: contains the preparation for the trainer aptitude test in front of a chamber and for the master craftsman's examination part 4 in front of a chamber of trade. This app is available for the iOS and Android operating systems.

The second focus is on the implementation of trainings and workshops for seminar groups from China, India, Mozambique and Nigeria. The content of the training and workshops are methodology and didactics as well as management training.

The office of the Webkolleg is responsible for the operation and marketing of the portal, for public relations, for the sales and for the quality assurance of the offers.

In the third area, the Webkolleg oversees the operation of further education portals. Since March 2011, the web college with the ZWH label has been in charge of the online portal "Bildungsinitiative Handwerk".

In the fourth area, the Webkolleg develops customer-specific learning programs that are primarily designed as online learning programs. In this area, the Webkolleg has been developing online learning programs for the Academy of the Ministry of the Interior, for the State Trade Promotion Agency of North Rhine-Westphalian Crafts, for the Studienkreis GmbH and for schools on the Internet since 2007.

Many advanced training courses at the web college prepare for external degrees:

  • State and public law qualifications: These include school qualifications, chamber of trade qualifications, German Chamber of Commerce qualifications, state technician and business management examinations and examinations by TÜV Rheinland.
  • Degrees from cooperation partners, institutions and academies, e.g. B. SAP certificates, certificate from the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg and the eQuality at the Institute for Educational Science AP of the University of Zurich.

Methodology and didactics

Different learning methods are used in the training courses in the web college. Most advanced training courses use the blended learning method. This learning method includes face-to-face phases, online phases with the use of learning platforms, online learning modules and online conferences, as well as tutor support by trained tutors. All further training courses at the web college are carried out in an action-oriented manner from a didactic point of view.

Both private individuals as well as organizations and companies use the web college to find and book further training courses; there are over 2,600 from over 70 providers per day. Since April 2004, the WebKolleg has provided over 88,000 course units to private individuals, organizations and companies.
