Female ending (music)

Female ending (Italian Cadence feminine ), also called female ending, describes the metrical position of a musical ending . If the final sound falls on an unstressed beat time, one speaks of a female ending.

All lead formations require feminine endings. If the ending consists of looking-up chord tones (melodic ending made up of two or more tones), it is also referred to as a female ending.
