For Christmas singing of the 1. FC Union Berlin is the annual meeting on December 23, fans and friends 1. FC Union Berlin in the stadium at the old forester to set the mood for the Christmas party . The Christmas singing has been taking place in the Berlin district of Treptow-Köpenick since 2003 . With around 28,500 participants in 2016, Union's Christmas singing brings together what is now “Germany's most famous Christmas choir”.

In 2003 , 89 members of the “Alt-Unioner” fan club secretly met for the first Christmas singing in the stadium, to end the year together after a disappointing first half of the season. Since then, Christmas singing has developed into a major event, which since 2012 has also required the use of the stadium interior for spectators and singers.

Because of the stadium renovation, the 2008 Christmas singing had to be relocated to the Köpenick Town Hall .

Since 2014, due to the high demand for Christmas singing, tickets have been sold, as the capacity limit had been reached with previously free entry. The income from ticket sales benefits Union's youth work.

The school choir of the Emmy-Noether-Gymnasium Köpenick provides musical support for Christmas singing . An integral part of the event is also the reading of the Christmas story by the Köpenick pastor Peter Müller.

The Christmas singing, which started as a secret meeting and is now known as a "tradition", is an important part of the identity of the 1. FC Union, also in international perception.

The Christmas singing in the stadium has found imitators in many other German cities (including Cologne, Aachen, Gelsenkirchen and Dresden).
