from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Weinakademiker , a designation protected by trademark law (title), is a qualification (not a state academic degree) that can be awarded to graduates of the Austrian Wine Academy by the Board of Trustees of the Austrian Wine Academy. The wine academics are committed to a code of honor, which postulates permanent further training in the wine sector and the responsible handling of wine as a cultural asset.

history

Since 1991 the Austrian Wine Academy has been open to all those interested in wine as a non-profit organization with its own seminar and training program. In addition to the campus in Rust (Burgenland) , a second office is set up in Krems an der Donau . Annually, up to 15,000 participants are counted in over 800 seminars throughout Austria and neighboring countries.

The first vintage of wine academics graduated in 1994. Today there are more than 850 wine academics from 41 countries.

The training to become a wine academician is possible in both English and German. The Weinakademie offers the "Weinakademiker Diploma" in German in cooperation with the Geisenheim University in Germany and Zurich, Campus Wädenswil in Switzerland. The multi-year training not only includes the most important wines in the world, but also spirits.

Another path leads to becoming a wine academician via the English-language "WSET Diploma in Wines". The “Wine and Spirits Education Trust” (WSET), based in London, is the cooperation partner here.

At the end of both diploma programs there is a final diploma thesis and an oral colloquium
