World Hospice Day

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The World Hospice and Palliative Care Day (short Welthospiztag ) is an international commemoration and action, is what marked annually on the second Saturday in October.

World Hospice Day was first initiated in 2005 by the Worldwide Hospice Palliative Care Alliance (WHPCA). The national hospice and palliative organizations organize campaigns to this end and are supported internationally by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The day should serve to draw attention to often taboo topics such as death, dying and mourning and to anchor them in society. In addition, the professional and voluntary hospice work should be remembered in order to increase support for this work in society.
To this end, various activities are being carried out by local institutions and organizations. Since the German Hospice Day also
takes place on October 14th, many activities are combined for the two days in Germany.
