Example of a report from the Book of Miracles, linguistically revised

Wilhelm Bauermann from the Wattenscheid parish had been so blind for some years that he could no longer see the bright daylight. after the unsuccessful use of all possible natural means, he got engaged in July, trusting divine help and the intercession of Mary in Werl to the miraculous image that had been venerated there for a hundred years since 1761, and allowed his wife to lead him there. There he had the grace of being able to see a glimmer of daylight after a shudder that suddenly came over him; this increased to such an extent that on the day of his return he was able to cover a large part of the way alone without being guided by anyone. This was testified in writing by the Apostolic Protonotary Franz Andreas Ahen and several witnesses interviewed by him, among the latter the venerable pastor and the former mayor of Steele and former imperial notary Philipp Hamann.
