Western Writers of America

The Western Writers of America are a writers' association, which was founded in 1953 with the aim of Western literature to promote. The association was founded primarily by authors who wrote traditional western history. However, it grew rapidly, which soon led to non-fiction authors, historians and other writers who only marginally deal with Western topics, became members.

In 2005 the association had over 500 members. A conference takes place once a year, usually in the western United States. The association presents the Spur Awards , which have been given annually since 1953, for the best novel , the best short story or long story , the best novel in paperback, the best short story and the best non-fiction book . There are also further prizes for biographies, youth books, scripts and film adaptations.

The association has published Roundup Magazine ( ISSN  1081-2229 ) since 1994 . The roundup quarterly or Roundup was the predecessor of this magazine .
