Bellingham is a city in the northwest of the US state Washington in Whatcom County , whose county seat it is at the same time. The city is located on the Pacific , on Bellingham Bay , and had a population of 80,885 at the 2010 US census on April 1, 2010.
The city is called City of Subdued Excitement by the population and the local press . Bellingham is the seat of Western Washington University , which with its more than 12,000 students has a significant social and cultural impact on life in the city and is an important economic factor. Also located there in the reservation of the Lummi , which was founded in 1973 and 1993 Northwest Indian College . The Marietta Band of Nooksacks was named after the nearby Marietta .
Bellingham is the northernmost city in the United States outside of Alaska .

The English captain George Vancouver explored the coast in 1792 and named the bay after Sir William Bellingham , who was responsible in the British Navy for equipping the expedition from Vancouver.
The city was founded on November 4, 1903. In 1919, 125 Sikh workers were expelled from British India to British Columbia , Canada , during race riots .
