Arthur Kelvin Barnes (born December 6, 1909 in Bellingham , Washington ; died March 11, 1969 in Los Angeles ) was an American science fiction writer.

Barnes studied at the University of California at Los Angeles and published, beginning in 1931 with Lord of the Lightning in Wonder Stories , until 1945 a number of short stories in the pulp magazines of the era, some of them in collaboration with Henry Kuttner .

His most famous stories revolve around the interstellar hunter Gerry Carlyle, who travels to strange worlds to capture exotic animals for the London Interplanetary Zoo . The series was originally reprinted in Thrilling Wonder Stories . In 1957 a collection of the Gerry Carlyle stories appeared as a fix-up under the title Interplanetary Hunter , and a collection of all stories in 2007 as The Complete Interplanetary Huntress: The Adventures of Gerry Carlyle .

Some texts by Barnes also appeared under the publishing pseudonym Kelvin Kent , including 12 Peter Manx time travel stories together with Henry Kuttner. Barnes' stories have also been translated into German and Italian.
