An Open Secret is an American documentary filmmaker Amy Berg from the year 2014 . He deals with child sexual abuse in the California film industry . The film was largely ignored within the film industry for three years after its completion. It wasn't until the Weinstein scandal in October 2017 that it got more attention.

Producers Matthew Valentinas and Gabe Hoffmann approached Amy Berg with the subject in 2011 after seeing her film Deliver Us From Evil , in which she dealt with sexual abuse in the Catholic Church . This film received an Oscar nomination.

The film is mainly about the film producer Marc Collins-Rector , who has since been convicted of child abuse. In his house wild parties with underage boys are said to have taken place, in which the director Bryan Singer is said to have participated.

After its completion, the film was only shown in a few cinemas. However, a pirated copy on the Internet received 900,000 views . In the course of the Weinstein scandal, Hoffman and Valentinas put the film on the video platform Vimeo publicly on the Internet.
