Douglas Eugene "Gene" Savoy (born May 11, 1927 in Bellingham , Washington, † September 11, 2007 in Reno , Nevada) was an American journalist, adventurer and founder of a sect.

In the 1960s he undertook numerous expeditions into the Peruvian jungle of the eastern Andes and the Amazon . Among other things, he found four important Incas sites in the 1950s and 1960s as well as the remains of the Chachapoya people , the "cloud people". Savoy also managed to find more than 40 prehistoric settlements in the Peruvian rainforest, including the jungle city of Vilcabamba . During his expeditions he was repeatedly involved in conflicts with guerrilla fighters, but was able to escape through courage and cunning. He became world famous through his expeditions and later also served George Lucas as a template for his Indiana Jones film series .

In addition to his activity of discovery, he founded the International Church of Jesus Christ, Church of the Second Advent. He was firmly convinced that Jesus had already lived on earth twice.
