Where's George

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Where's George? is a website that enables the circulation of US banknotes to be tracked. The website was first put online in November 1998 by the database developer Hank Eskin. The name "Where's George?" Refers to George Washington , who is depicted on the one dollar bill.

Banknote registration

To register a banknote , the value, the series and the serial number of the banknote as well as the own postcode are entered. The database then saves the banknote, reports further sightings and calculates the distance covered and the time between the registration processes. Users have the option of providing information on the location and condition of the dollar using a free text form.

As of February 2009, approximately 147,000,000 banknotes worth $ 800 million had been registered on the website. Around nine percent of the banknotes are so-called hits, meaning that they were reported more than once.

Others

In 2001 Eskin also started the Where's Willy project , where the migration of Canadian banknotes can be followed based on the example of "Where's George" .

The EuroBillTracker project, founded in France in 2002 , which examines the circulation of euro banknotes , was inspired by “Where's George?”.
