Why We Fight (analogous dt. Translation: "Why do we wage war") is a seven-part US series of propaganda films from the period 1942 to 1945. The film series was shortly after the entry of the United States into the Second World War by the US Army commissioned and produced. Originally conceived for demonstration in front of US soldiers, the series, which wanted to explain the reasons for American participation in the war and to oppose isolationism , which was still widespread in America at the time , was soon shown in public movie theaters. The series advertises interventionism as the new basis of US foreign policy .

The propaganda series was also distributed abroad, with French, Spanish, Russian and Chinese soundtracks. Prelude to War , the first film in the series, was awarded an Oscar in 1943 for “Best Documentary” .

In 2000 Why We Fight was inducted into the National Film Registry .
